The 50-wagon train makes two trips a day.

Two trains were reportedly stopped on the same track in Katpadi near Vellore on Tuesday creating a flutter, but Railway officials said there was no need for panic as there was a safe distance between the trains.

A video clipping showing a MEMU passeger train from Jolarpet and a water wagon train stationed on the same track surfaced on social media wondering if a head-on collision were averted.

Officials at Katpadi railway station clarified that upon seeing the stationary water wagon train, the locopilot of the MEMU train stopped the vehicle at a safe distance.

The water wagon train, used for transporting water from Jolarpet to Chennai, had to be stopped near Zafrabad in Katpadi due to a signal fault. Since the special train has locomotives on both sides, it would have appeared as if a head-on collision were averted, a railway official said.

The MEMU motorman stopped the train on seeing the train ahead on the same track from a distance. He was asked by officials to wait for water train to receive clearance to run. During this time, commuters took pictures and videos to spread the message through social media, said an official.

Both trains were cleared towards Arakkonam after Railways attended to the signal blocks in Zafrabad, sources from Southern Railway clarified.
