Kodaikanal police have registered a case against Patti and Thomas of Skamba farm under Section 429 of the IPC for allegedly shooting and killing wild animals.
In a complaint, H. Janani Krishnamurthy of Kodaikanal Society for Protection and Care for Animals, said she received many messages on Whatsapp and other social media of Ms. Patti and Mr. Thomas killing wild and other animals in the farm. Monkeys and several other animals were killed with pellet guns and arrow pellets, she alleged and wanted to file a complaint. The incidents took place 10 months ago. Proof of killing the animals was shown and forwarded to the police.

Sub-Inspector N. Pongunasekaran registered the case on Wednesday.
Kodaikanal police had already registered cases against six persons, including four journalists, on the charges of conspiracy to defraud, coercion and extortion on the basis of a complaint lodged by Patti Anne Tower, Managing Trustee of Aeon Trust.
In her complaint, she had said that the six persons threatened her that they had information that there were shooting and killing of monkeys in the estate. To avoid publication of news report, they demanded ₹10 lakh from her. Later, they reportedly collected ₹4.5 lakh from her and started threatening her to settle the remaining amount, she alleged.

Acting on the complaint, Kodaikanal police had registered cases against them under Sections 147, 471, 385, 388 and 506 part II of the IPC, the police said.
