With the tourist inflow swelling in large numbers at the Udhagamandalam hill station for the summer season, police have announced a temporary diversion in traffic pattern in a bid to decongest the ghat section.
As the tourist inflow was expected to increase for the week-end and also for the Vegetable Show being hosted by the Horticulture Department at Kotagiri, police have announced that all Udhagamandalam-bound vehicles will be allowed on the Mettuppalayam, Burliar and Coonoor road while the traffic from Udhagamandalam to Mettuppalayam will be diverted via Kotagiri. This traffic diversion will be in force on Saturday and Sunday.
Depending on the tourist flow, a decision will be taken on whether to extend the traffic diversion during the week days as well, police sources said. However, the traffic diversion will be in force during the second and third week of May when Udhagamandalam turns busy for the flower show as part of the summer festival.
