TN team reaches Gujarat to visit Birla textile mill

A team of senior officials of the State government and representatives of dyeing and bleaching industry of Tirupur reached Gujarat on Friday to visit the Birla Century Textile mill at Jhagadia in Bharuch district where an effluent treatment plant with zero discharge had been set up.

This follows the directive of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to study the model applied there could be replicated in Tirupur. The team was headed by C.V. Sankar, Principal Secretary (Environment and Forests) of the State government.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister announced a solution package for the Noyyal river pollution problem that had been caused by the dyeing and bleaching industry. She also ordered the immediate release of Rs. 18.38 crore to 10,838 farmers towards relief, according to an official release issued on Saturday.
