Tiruchi Siva files nomination

Tiruchi N. Siva of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was among the three persons who filed nomination papers for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the inaugural day of submitting the papers.

Accompanied by his party leaders, including M. K. Stalin and Durai Murugan, the 59-year-old candidate, who represented the now-abolished Pudukottai Lok Sabha constituency during 1996-1998 and was a member of the Upper House in two spells (2000-2002 and 2007-2013), handed over the papers to Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer for the elections, A.M.P. Jamaludeen. According to Mr Siva’s nomination papers [hosted on the website of the Tamil Nadu Assembly], the value of movable assets held by him and his family was estimated about Rs. 1.19 crore and that of immovable assets – around Rs. 2.79 crore. Agricultural lands of 9.89 acres, valued at Rs. 28.6 lakh, were being held by the candidate, his wife and dependent. The total income, as shown in his Income Tax returns for the assessment year 2013-14, was about Rs. 12.8 lakh and that of his wife around Rs. 3.83 lakh.

Among the other two candidates who filed the nominations was K. Padmarajan of Mettur, Salem district. This was the 157th time that Mr Padmarajan filed the nomination for an elected post.
