Feb 15, 2017: V.K. Sasikala, AIADMK interim general secretary before surrendering herself to jail authorities in Bengaluru, makes her nephew and former MP, T T V Dhinakaran AIADMK deputy general secretary.

Feb 16: Edappadi K Palaniswami becomes Chief Minister

Mar 15: AIADMK nominates T T V Dhinakaran as party's candidate for the RK Nagar by-poll scheduled for April 12.

Apr 9: Election Commision cancels by-poll over alleged use of money power to influence voters.

Apr 17: Delhi Police books Dhinakaran for allegedly trying to bribe an EC official to get the 'two leaves' poll symbol. Ministers decide to snap ties with him, other members of Sasikala’s family

Apr 25: Dhinakaran arrested in Delhi

Aug 21: AIADMK factions led by Palaniswami, O. Panneerselvam decide to come together. Panneerselvam and “Ma foi” K. Pandiarajan made Deputy Chief Minister and Minister.

Aug 22: Nineteen MLAs, owing allegiance to Dhinakaran, withdraw their support to Palaniswami

Sept 12: Palaniswami-Panneerselvam factions hold joint general council, rescinds appointment of Sasikala and Dhinakaran as interim general secretary & deputy general secretary

Sept 18: Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal disqualifies 18 MLAs

Sept 19, 20: Affected legislators challenge disqualification in Madras High Court

Nov 23: EC allots “two leaves” symbol to Palaniswami-Panneerselvam factions, recognises them as AIADMK

Dec 24: Dhinakaran wins R K Nagar by-election as independent
