TIDCO to facilitate establishment of solar power parks in 2013-14

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation plans to facilitate formation of solar power parks, for a total capacity of 1000 MW, with private players in 2013-14.

The Industries Minister, P. Thangamani, told the Assembly on Friday that the total investment required to start these parks was estimated around Rs. 9000 crore. The solar parks would provide common facilities, like developed lands, roads, water supply, drainage and dedicated power evacuation facility, to independent solar power producers.

In the first phase of the project initiated in 2012-13, the TIDCO, in association with Bangalore-based Raasi Green Earth Energy, was developing a 100-MW capacity solar park in Paramakudi taluk of Ramanathapuram district at an estimated cost of Rs 920 crore on 500 acres of dry land. The project, the Minister said, was expected to be completed in the next six months.

Aerospace park

Fifty acres of land had been identified near the Chennai airport for setting up a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility for aircraft and 300 acres of land was being acquired for developing a component manufacturing park for aerospace industry in Sriperumpudur, the Minister said.

The initiatives were part of the plan to establish an integrated aerospace park with the objective of supporting the development of aerospace industry.

A feasibility report was ready for the proposed Integrated Financial Service Centre and TIDCO was taking steps to implement the project by identifying suitable land near Chennai.

The project company, GVK Group, Hyderabad, involved in the development of a multi-product special economic zone (SEZ) in Perambalur district had made a request for its conversion as an integrated industrial park. Project implementation would begin after evaluation of the request, the Minister said. The first phase operation of the petroleum refinery project of Nagarjuna Oil Corporation was expected to commence by 2014 at Thiruchipuram in Cuddalore district.

The government, Mr. Thangamani said, had issued orders for allotment of 100 acres of land each by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu for setting up separate industrial parks for investors from countries like Japan, Korea, Finland, Germany and France to attract more foreign investments.
