Three health centres to be upgraded into taluk hospitals

Infrastructure at Illupur hospital to be improved

C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health, laying the foundation for the work on expansion of Government Hospital at Iluppur near Pudukottai on Saturday.

Three government hospitals in the district are to be upgraded into the status of taluk headquarters units. The hospitals at Iluppur, Kakrambakudi, and Manamelkudi will be upgraded to the status of taluk headquarters. Additional infrastructure will be provided at these hospitals.

Laying the foundation for the additional buildings at the Government Hospital in Iluppur on Saturday, C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health, said that new buildings would be built at an estimate of Rs.1.50 crore.

Mr. Vijaya Baskar said that the new building, with 54 beds, would be built on two floors with a total plinth area of 9,100 square feet on the ground and first floors put together.

Additional doctors would be appointed in course of time. Similar facilities would be provided at the hospital in Karambakudi and Manamelkudi, he added.

\He said the bus stand at Iluppur would be declared open shortly.

More classrooms

Earlier, the Minister declared open the fair price shop and anganwadi in Iluppur. He laid the foundation for additional buildings for three schools sanctioned under the NABARD totalling Rs. 5.29 crore. The school buildings would be built at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Iluppur, Viralimalai, and Government High School in Kodumbalur.

He said these schools would get additional classrooms, laboratory, a toilet block, and a bicycle stand. The plinth area at Iluppur would be 9,505 square feet with 18 classrooms. The plinth area of school at Viralimalai and Kodumbalur would be 9,507 square feet with eight classrooms.

Later, the Minister laid the foundation for the Public Works Department guest house at Iluppur. The building would be built at an estimate of Rs.72.20 lakh on a plinth area of 2,217 square feet. It would have a conference hall, VIP suits, and uninterrupted drinking water.
