Two of his assistants allegedly suffered stab injuries

Intraparty feud in the DMK after the recent organisational elections came to the fore with supporters of district youth wing organiser S. Murali attacking the house of former Minister M. Thennavan at Karaikudi on Tuesday.

Police said supporters of Murali barged into the house of Mr Thennavan and damaged the showcase and two cars parked outside, before fleeing.

Mr Thennavan, who is DMK Literary Wing deputy secretary, was not present at home at that time, the police said.

His daughter S. Ramajayam lodged a complaint with Karaikudi North police station, alleging that a group of 25 people, including DMK office-bearers Iluppakudi Narayanan, Durai, Ganesan, Murali, Balamurugan and Saravanan, came in three vehicles and abused them before launching the attack. Before leaving, they held out a murder threat to her father, she said.

Two of Mr Thennavan’s assistants, Karmegam and Sekar, were believed to have suffered stab injuries when they tried to prevent the attackers, but the complaint had no mention of it.

Immediately, supporters of Thennavan went to Murali’s house and launched an attack, damaging two cars parked outside, before fleeing from the scene on the arrival of the police.
