Tank operators, workers stage protest

Members of the district wing of the Tamil Nadu Village Panchayat Overhead Tank Operators and Sanitary Workers Association staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s Office here on Monday in support of their charter of demands.

Led by P.Shanmugam, State president, CITU-led Panchayat Workers Union, they demanded regularisation of services of overhead tank operators and sanitary workers.

A minimum monthly wage of Rs.15,000 should be fixed till a time scale of pay was introduced, they said.

They also protested against the privatisation of sanitary schemes in rural areas.

They said that provident fund scheme should be extended to them.

K. Mohamad Ali Jinna, district secretary, spoke on the demands.
