Tamil Nadu facing acute power crisis: Vijaykanth

October 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - TUTICORIN:

Prolonged load-shedding is being clamped across Tamil Nadu as the State is facing acute power crisis, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder president Vijaykanth has alleged.

Addressing a public meeting here on Wednesday night organised for distribution of welfare measures to the needy, Mr. Vijaykanth said the power cut being clamped across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, had seriously affected industrial investment.

The letter sent by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the early commissioning of the second unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project was evidence of the acute power shortage. He also alleged that the law and order situation was in the worst shape and even the High Court Judges could not repose their faith in the State police as they were seeking protection for the High Court complex from the Central Industrial Security Force.

Premalatha Vijayakanth said the salt, match and fishing industries in the district, which were giving employment to several lakhs of people, were ailing because of the anti-labour policies of successive governments.

She said the DMDK would mobilise the people against Tuticorin Corporation administration if the fourth drinking water scheme was not completed in the near future. The PWD officials, who were keen on mining sand from Srivaikundam dam, were not worried about storing water in the reservoir for irrigation, she alleged.
