Asks him to check facts before levelling “unsubstantiated allegations”

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has demanded an apology from All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi for “unsubstantiated allegations” against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the farmers' agitation there.

In a statement here, Dr. Swamy said: “Mr. Gandhi is general secretary of the ruling party and son of Sonia Gandhi, who heads the National Advisory council and who receives sensitive government files for perusal. Therefore, Mr. Gandhi has no excuse for making such wild and baseless allegations of genocide and mass rape without first checking his facts.”

These allegations were “contrived from his own imagination for the crude purpose of defaming the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati,” Dr. Swamy contended.
