Though the Lok Sabha election is nine months away, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami converted the reception accorded to him by party cadre in the rural Belur town near here on Saturday into an pre-election campaign by seeking votes for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and launched a blistering attack on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
The Chief Minister, who preferred to speak on seeing a good turnout of party cadre and local people, said under the AIADMK regime the State has been a front-runner in the implementation of the development works in the country. After the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the opposition parties made all sorts of attempts to dislodge the regime and eliminate the AIADMK from the political scenario of the State.
“The party has become a force to reckon with due to the hard and committed work put in by the party cadre and no power in the earth will be able to harm either the government or the AIADMK”, he said with confidence.

Mr. Palaniswami said that the DMK despite remaining in power for many years, had done nothing worthwhile for the people of the State. It did not bring in any major industrial projects. It had also failed to solve the major issues like Cauvery row, Mullaperiyar disputes when it shared power in the Centre. In contrast, the late Jayalalithaa waged a stiff battle on Cauvery issue and successfully managed to get justice for the farming community of the state.
The people extended total support to the AIADMK in the last Lok Sabha elections, which enabled the party to score a resounding win. “The people should extend similar support to the AIADMK candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections too for continuing the good work”, Mr. Palaniswami said.
Later, on reaching the entry point of the tribal Karumanthurai village, Mr. Palaniswami alighted from his car and got into a open jeep.
