January 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - SALEM:

Alleging negligence on the part of a private hospital that led to the death of a 30-year-old man, relatives of the victim staged a road block near Seelanaickenpatti here on Friday. Ranjith Kumar of Annathanapatti was working in a private company. On Thursday, while he was on his way from Old Bus Stand to his house on his two-wheeler, he was involved in an accident with motorist Manikandan (26) of Nethimedu. Both suffered injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Seelanaickenpatti. However, Ranjith Kumar, died on Friday without responding to treatment. His family members and relatives staged a road block on the Salem – Namakkal National Highway, seeking action against the hospital.

They alleged that when he was admitted to the hospital, there were no doctors and nurses. They said that he had been treated by seeking guidance over the phone. “Even on Thursday night, the hospital said that he was well. But now they say he is dead,” the relatives said. Police personnel rushed to the spot and pacified them. Over 50 relatives withdrew the protest, received the body and left. Traffic was disrupted on the stretch for about 20 minutes.
