Sri Lankan Navy arrests four fishermen

Four fishermen from Pudukottai district were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing near Neduntheevu in the early hours on Tuesday.

The quartet – M. Rajkumar, 28, A. Jakubar, 40, R. Gajendran, 32 and S. Karuppaiah, 35 — set sail on a mechanised boat on Monday morning.

Taken to naval base

They were scheduled to return on Tuesday morning.

The officials of the Coastal Security Group said the fishermen were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy about 32 nautical miles from Kottaipattinam around 3.30 a.m, and were taken to the Kankesanthurai naval base for inquiry.
