The State Government should speed up the relief measures and take effective steps to lessen the burden of the people in the rain-hit Cuddalore district, said Anbumani Ramadoss, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader and MP.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss said that the standing paddy on one lakh acres, plantain on 10,000 acres and cholam on 7,000 acres had suffered severe damages in Cuddalore district along with a large number of houses and other properties.
The relief has not reached the affected people so far. Many villages in Cuddalore district are without power and people are suffering without potable drinking water.

The government machinery should take effective steps in creating adequate facilities and also in implementing the relief measures.
Referring to Chennai city, Dr. Ramadoss said that more than 300 tanks have been missing. The PMK warned the State Government even before the commencement of the monsoon period on the precautionary measures to be taken, but the people in power did not accord importance to the same.
He came down heavily against the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin for levelling charges against each other, totally ignoring the interest of the people.

He said that a majority of the water bodies in Dharmapuri continue to remain dry even after the district experiencing widespread rainfall. Only a few tanks have adequate water. This only proved the lethargic attitude of the official machinery.
He cautioned the out-break of various diseases in the rain hit areas and called upon the Government to take steps on a war footing to prevent the spreading of these diseases and protect the innocent people.
