Voters of the constituency had alleged that their names were erroneously removed from rolls

Chennai District Election Office will conduct a special camp on Sunday to resolve issues reported by voters whose names have been removed recently.

Chennai District Election Officer D. Karthikeyan said there has been a rise in “allegations and counter allegations” by political parties after the names were deleted from the electoral rolls in Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly Constituency. “Booth awareness groups will help residents check the electoral rolls on Sunday. We have informed political parties also,” said Mr. Karthikayan.

After 45,819 names were removed from the electoral rolls in the Constituency, many residents complained to the Chennai District Election Department, claiming that their names have been erroneously removed from the rolls.

As a result, many Opposition parties have started making allegations against officials who conducted the drive to delete names from the rolls in all the 256 polling stations of the constituency.

Visit to party offices

On Saturday, Election Department messengers visited the offices of recognised national parties — the Congress, the Bhartiya Janata Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Nationalist Congress party, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) — to give information on the special camps in writing.

Information was also sent through messengers from the Chennai District Election Office to recognised State parties such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.

On Saturday, Chennai District Election Office sent separate information on the special camps to the ‘two factions’ of the AIADMK. One letter was sent to the AIADMK office on Avvai Shanmugam Salai and another to the residence of E. Madhusudhanan, who was the candidate fielded by the O.Panneerselvam faction in the byelection announced a few months ago.

As the official communication on the Two Leaves symbol for the EPS-OPS factions has not been received by the Chennai District Election Office from the Election Commission of India, Mr . Madhusudhanan continues to receive separate information on such key issues.
