The State government came under pressure in the Assembly on Friday, as the DMK raised the NITI Aayog’s rankings of States in terms of the ease of doing business, in which Tamil Nadu has fared poorly.
DMK leader M.K. Stalin questioned the AIADMK government about the reported statement of Amitabh Kant, the CEO of NITI Aayog, that T.N. figured among the States that stood last in the rankings list.
However, Electricity Minister P. Thangamani denied the claim, adding, “to say [that Tamil Nadu stood] last is wrong information.”

He also called on the DMK not to spread such information which might affect companies looking to invest in the State.
Earlier, Industries Minister M.C. Sampath listed the efforts made by the State government to attract investors.
As for the media reports quoted by Mr. Stalin regarding the concerns, raised during a recent meeting of the Madras Chamber of Commerce, that there was a perception that Tamil Nadu was not open for business, Mr. Sampath denied the claims.

He informed the House that investments to the tune of ₹19,000 crore were to be made in the State by the likes of Ceat, Foxconn, Hyundai and Vedanta, among others.
