The Namibikai children’s home, accommodating about 37 children orphaned by the 2004 tsunami, got a roof top solar power system on Tuesday.
The home is being run by K. Parameswaran, an assistant executive engineer of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., and his wife P.Choodamani, an administrative officer of the Life Insurance Corporation, at New Beach in Nagapattinam.
The couple had lost three of their children in the tsunami.

The solar power unit was inaugurated by Collector S.Palanisamy.
The 10 kilo watt roof top solar power system was installed with financial support from a group of individuals, Raymond J.Herring, Ruel and Julie, and Ranjith and Prabhu Jones, of Australia.
The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TNEDA) has promised to extend subsidy for the project costing about Rs.12 lakhs, according to Mr. Parameswaran.
