Social service award for Pudukottai

Kumari Ananthan, Manager of Gandhi World Foundation, giving away prize to health officials in Pudukottai.

Pudukottai district has bagged the social service award, instituted by the Chennai Gandhi World Foundation, Chennai, at a function held on Saturday.

The award has been conferred on the Health Department since it organised a free health camp for narikuravas at Rengammal Chathiram at Muthudaiyanpatti in January and created awareness among narikuravas of the need to keep fit. V. C. Subash Gandhi, Research Scholar, Tamil Nadu Health System Project, who received the award, said the camp sensitised narikurava men and women to ensure personal hygiene.

S. Swaminathan, camp organiser, spoke on the steps taken for extending the benefit of Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme to Narikurava community.

Kumari Ananthan, manager of the foundation, said the award has been given under the category of ‘Our Place – Our Honour’ to encourage the activities of the youth for bringing about transformation in the life of the downtrodden.
