Police on Wednesday arrested seven persons, including four women, on charges of attempting to throw acid on tenants for refusing to vacate the house.
Murugan (45) along with his family was residing in a house as tenant in Salem Camp area in Mettur.

On Wednesday, Radhakrishnan (64), Subbulakshmi (56), former councillor Abdul Salam (61), his wife and councillor Zenathul Hasma and others of the same area threatened Murugan (45) to vacate the house.
It is said that they also used deadly weapons to threaten the family. Murugan’s neighbour Venkatesan (42) tried to prevent attack on Murugan.
Radhakrishnan allegedly threw acid on Venkatesh, Venkatachalam and Murugan’s wife Kavitha (38).

They developed eye irritation and were admitted to Government Hospital in Mettur for treatment of the problem.
Based on a complaint, the Karumalai Koodal police registered a case under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 447 (criminal trespass), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 326 (b) (attempted acid throwing) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation).
Taken into custody
The police arrested Radhakrishnan, Abdul Salam, Subbulakshmi, Ezebella, Thavamani, Sumathi, Jayaseeli. Search is on for other three accused.
