Employees of State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) staged a protest in front of the bus depot here on Monday.

K. Thangapandi, who led the protest, said that water supply was inadequate at the depot which had been catering to 400 employees. Works were not assigned as per seniority in the work roster and duties allotted arbitrarily.

There was a shortage of technical staff at the depot for the past two years. For 72 buses in this depot, only 27 technical staff were available. Hence, a single worker did maintenance work for 10 buses. Maintenance of air-conditioned buses was very poor. These buses could return to the depot only after three days after a long trip.

Routes were allotted to drivers arbitrarily. Tuticorin-bound buses from Chennai were often directed to return to Chennai after halting at Tiruchi or Madurai.

Canteen was ill-maintained, he said and appealed to the Branch Manager to sort out these problems.
