A Sessions Court in Chennai has acquitted 13 persons who were charged by the ‘Q’ Branch CID of the State police for their alleged involvement in sending medicines, electronic gadgets to the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.
According to the prosecution, Jayamohan alias Sathyanathan, Antony Sebastian Babu, Jayanthan and Guhan were arrested in 2009 by the police near Tiruvanmiyur. The investigation revealed that they were supplying medicines and electronic communication equipments such as satellite phones, global positioning systems to the banned organisation.
Based on the confession statements by them, all other accused were arrested later. Three of them were Sri Lankan nationals. The prosecution alleged that they were members of the banned organisation, conspiring with each other and involved in unlawful activities inside the territory of India.

Holding that the charges against them were not proven, S.Senthil Kumaresan, XVII Additional Sessions Judge said, “There is no acceptable evidence available to hold that the accused are having connection with banned organisation.”
