Senthil Public School is regional winner

If Virat Kohli set world record on Thursday by scoring three centuries in the first three innings as captain, all the six teams in the finals of the 15th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz, scored points by identifying him on the screen.

Got off to a flying start, the quiz was being held here for the fifth year.

V. Govardhana Kishore and K. Gowtham, both Standard VIII students of Senthil Public School, Salem, scored 41 points each and emerged victorious.

They edged out S. Madhumitha (Standard VII), and D. Prageetha Bharathi (Standard VI) of Cluny Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Salem, came runners up scoring 37 points.

The four other teams that made into the finals were: V. Sreenitha and S.P. Subikksha of Holy Angels Public School, Salem; K.S. Mohan Kumar and U. Sharveshwaran of K.S.R. Askhara Academy, Tiruchengode; V. Divya Gokul and S.N. Sujith of The Navodaya Academy, Namakkal; and K. Mohammed Haarith and S. Ryan Caarlos of Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Salem.

A total of 318 teams from schools in Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts competed in the preliminary rounds held for students of Standard VI to VIII.

Six top scoring teams moved to the finals. Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan's questions — audio-video based — kept the audience spellbound. They too won prizes.

Chief guest C. Valliappa, chairman of the Sona Group of Institutions presented the winners, and the other five teams trophy, bicycles, gift boxes, and certificates.

Britannia Milk Bikis was the presenting sponsor and Firefox was the associate sponsor. Reynolds and Success Notebooks and Nakshtra Party Sales were the gift sponsors. Venue sponsor was Thiagarajar Polytechnic College. The event manager was I ads and events.
