Second phase of Mission Indradhanush under way

Special camps as part of the second phase of Mission Indradhanush, the immunisation programme initiated by the Centre for children below two years and pregnant women, commenced at various places across the district on Saturday. Collector M. Ravikumar inaugurated the camp organised at St. Antony’s Higher Secondary School at Mullakadu Panchayat. To raise immunity among children, who were not immunised, and pregnant women, this programme is being taken up. This camp would continue for seven days in the district.

During the first phase of this mission in the district, which was launched on October 7, a total of 6,580 children and 394 pregnant women were covered. Eight districts across Tamil Nadu were covered under this mission in the first phase and in the ongoing second phase, 16 districts would be covered in 50 primary health centres, five urban primary health centres, 253 health sub centres and angawadi centres, the Collector said. The camps would commence at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m., he said. Mayor of Tuticorin Corporation A.P.R. Anthony Grace, Deputy Director of Health Services S. Uma and others attended.
