Nikita P. Chandur rushed back home on Monday afternoon when she learnt that the CBSE Class X results for Chennai region were announced. “I was quite anxious about the results, but am satisfied with my grades,” she said.
A total of 28,561 students in Tamil Nadu registered for the school and the board -based Class X examinations, which were held in March 2014, according to figures given by the Board earlier. Of these, close to 23,488 students registered for the board-based final examination. Students are given grades on a scale of A1 to E2 and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) instead of marks.
Though the announcement of results came as a surprise to some, city schools were largely happy with their performance. “Close to 60 per cent of our students got an A1 grade,” said V. Lakshmi Priya, Principal, National Public School.

C. Sathiamoorthy, Principal, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kilpauk, said that 22 of the 155 students at the school got a 10 CGPA. “The Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system has benefited students. Students’ performance has been improving each year,” he said. At P.S. Senior Secondary School, Principal Lakshmi Srinivasan said that 25 students had got a 10 CGPA.
