Schoolboy shines in badminton tournament

H. Arunesh (14), a Class X student of Golden Gates Matriculation Higher Secondary School, has won both the singles and doubles titles at the Tamil Nadu State Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton tournament held in Dharmapuri recently.

He began practising from Class III and had participated in many tournaments in the past.

In 2010, he won both the singles and doubles in the Under 10 category at State-level, in 2012, he also won both the titles in Under 13 category.

In 2013, he could reach the quarterfinals of the national-level tournament held in Cuttack.

In 2014, at the State level tournament held in Thanjavur, he won the doubles while he won both the singles and doubles at the recently-held tournament for Under 15 category.

His coach Karthick and Subramaniam shaped him to meet the requirements in the sport while his parents R. Hari and Sheela motivated him to participate in tournaments. By scoring 95 per cent in the examinations, Arunesh proved that he was good in studies too.

Arunesh added that proper planning helped him achieve in both academics and sports.
