SASTRA Law School teams excel in moot court contests

Moot teams from the School of Law at SASTRA University, Thanjavur, bagged the top honours in three major moot court competitions besides finishing the runner up in another while outstanding performances from individuals brought them laurels in various national moot court competitions conducted recently.

In the Justice Hidayatullah National Moot Court competition organised by the HNLU, Raipur, last Sunday, the SATSRA team comprising Ashwin Kumar, Asutosh Potharaju, and Saketh Kasibhatla won the overall first prize trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 beating Symbiosis Law School, Pune in the finals. Saketh won the best researcher cash award of Rs.7,500. Another moot team comprising M. Kiran, B.M. Vikas, and M.S. Ram won the Pro Bono Environmental Moot organised by the School of Excellence of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University the same day. The winning team beat M.S. Ramiah Law School, Bangalore, and was awarded a cash prize of Rs.15,000 besides the overall trophy.

Earlier, the winning streak for SASTRA commenced on October 15 with a team comprising K. Srinadan, Varsha Chandrashekhar, and G. Annapoorani winning the 13th Surana and Surana International Technology Law Moot Court Competition hosted by the Symbiosis Law School, Pune, in association with Surana and Surana International Attorneys.

The focus of the moot problem was on Copyright, Technology Law and Private International Law. The winning team got a cash prize of Rs. 30,000. In finishing the runner up in the Surana and Surana trial advocacy moot organised by NUALS, Kochi, SASTRA's moot team beat the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in the semi-finals but lost to the SOEL, Chennai, in the finals conducted early this month. V. Karthik bagged the best speaker award and the team won the prize for the best memorials.

The SASTRA management assured financial support for the SASTRA Moot Society to participate in the 2015 Willem C. Vis International Moot.
