AISMK accuses DMK of being mute witness to killings in Sri Lanka

While the Jayalalithaa-led alliance will register a resounding victory in the Lok Sabha polls, thanks to the able administration by the Chief Minister, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its allies will suffer the worst defeat, as they were the prime reason for the genocide in Sri Lanka, Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) founder R. Sarathkumar has said.

Addressing the party’s second State-level political conference here on Sunday, Mr.Sarathkumar said the DMK, the prime constituent of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance at the Centre, was a mute spectator to the wiping out of thousands of Sri Lankan Tamils in the government-sponsored killing in the island nation.

DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at that time, did not raise his voice against the Centre’s move to hand over Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka, which had been the prime reason now for the killing of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy.

He said the Jayalalithaa-led government in Tamil Nadu was taking care of the welfare of the people who had voted the party to power.

“Hence, the alliance led by Ms. Jayalalithaa, who has conceptualised ‘Vision 2023’ will win all the 40 Lok Sabha segments in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and she will become the Prime Minister of the country,” he said.

He also came down heavily on Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam president Vijaykant, saying that the Leader of the Opposition and his kin were involved in “bargains for personal gains”.

Ms. Radhika Sarathkumar, who has been the political advisor of the party, was elevated as the head of AISMK’s women’s wing at the meeting.

Resolution in UNHRC

Earlier, a resolution was passed urging the UPA government to move a resolution condemning the genocide in Sri Lanka in the United Nation’s Human Rights Council. Thanking Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for having arranged for the bilateral talks between the fishermen of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka to put an end to attacks and arrest of the fishermen, the conference appealed to the Centre to take immediate steps for retrieving Katchatheevu, which alone would permanently end the detention of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the naval forces of the island nation.
