With former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa acquitted in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court on Monday, expectations are that the State government would provide adequate funds to complete the existing projects which are facing severe financial crunch and causing hardship to the people.
Presently, Rs. 132.12-crore Phase II of the Mettur – Salem Dedicated Water Supply and the Rs. 70.60-crore underground drainage works are being implemented in the city. Also, the Corporation has submitted proposal to the government for purchasing bins and vehicles for solid waste management, improving infrastructure and for new projects for more than Rs. 120 crore. However, inadequate funds have forced the Corporation to revise the proposals many times and also cause delay in execution of works that were already undertaken. The poor condition of roads due to underground drainage works also is a cause of concern for the residents in the past four years. UGD works in many areas have just begun and only by regular funding, the projects are expected to be completed on time. The Amma canteen, constructed on the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College premises at a cost of more than Rs. 55 lakh, was not opened for public since completion of work six months ago. Hence, these works are expected to be expedited as officials are hopeful of receiving funds from the government soon.
Also, the State government had also announced that flyovers would come up in Five Roads Junction area and railway over bridges at Mulvadi Gate areas.

Also, the comprehensive mobility plan that proposes measures to solve traffic needs in the city and its adjoining areas in the coming years is expected to be submitted to the government for approval.
Sources said that since the Assembly elections are slated anytime now, the government may be keen on completing the existing projects and also approve small projects that would have direct impact on the people.
