An immediate allocation of Rs. 150 crore has been sanctioned towards repairs of roads in the State.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas in Chennai and neighbouring areas, stated, in a release that she held a detailed review meeting with senior officials.
During the meeting, she directed them to ensure that the affected persons were given assistance immediately and the rain-battered roads be repaired on a war footing.

Also, the officials were directed to discuss with concerned District Collectors to assess the extent of crop damage.
The areas covered under the Chief Minister's aerial survey were Amabttur, Avadi, Ennore, Puzhal, Chemparampakkam, Sriperumpudur, Thoraipakkam, Karapakkam, Sholinganallur and Pallikkaranai.

The Chief Minister said as a sequel to several preventive and precautionary measures taken on her directions, the intensity of damage in general had been contained, even though the rainfall during the northeast monsoon was about 40 per cent of the normal.
So far, the figure of rain-related deaths was 92 and a sum of Rs. 2 lakh each was given to families of the deceased. Owners of cattle which died were given compensation of Rs. 25.3 lakh. An amount of about Rs. 3.7 crore was paid to residents of 1,121 fully damaged huts and houses and 4,146 partially damaged dwelling units. Those who were moved to relief camps had been given Rs. 36.11 lakh, the release added.
