The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) is undertaking a long-term study to quantify the adverse effects of air pollution on citizens. The study is supported by the Vision Group of Science and Technology which has given Rs. 60 lakh for the three-year-long project, said Shashidhar Buggi, medical director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases. “Equipment is being purchased, while protocols are being prepared for the study. The study will research lung diseases and other issues owing to pollution,” he said.
“The urban lung is visibly covered with black carbon, while the rural lung is cleaner. Pollution is taking its toll in the city,” he added.
