At a time when it was assumed that this year’s ‘Courtallam Season’ has let down tourists and traders dependent on them, a welcome turnaround at the ‘Spa of the South’ has infused fresh hope among revellers.
The mesmerizing season at Courtallam used to start in the first week of June every year, continue to enthral visitors for two more months and come to a close in the last week of August as the southwest monsoon recedes gradually. With the first monsoon of the calendar year mercilessly dashing everyone’s hope, the season at Courtallam also became a non-starter. Poor water flow at Five Falls and Main Falls and subsequent long queues in these two major waterfalls this year might have driven the visitors towards other destinations.
Against this backdrop, unexpected drizzle and increased flow of water in the falls have started drawing tourists from the southern districts towards Courtallam again. All waterfalls at Courtallam — Main Falls, Five Falls, Tiger Falls, and Old Courtallam Falls are getting copious flow with the huge crowd enjoying it round-the-clock. “The season has revived after a dismal start and poor tourist inflow. As the revival has come at a weekend and also on the day of Ramzan, we anticipate good crowd during these holidays,” said S. Senthurpandian, who has taken on lease two parks at Courtallam.
