The effective discharge of duties of government officials during natural disasters is very important and hence they are asked to respond with utmost dedication.
This was the message disseminated during the Regional workshop on preparation of Taluk Disaster Management Plan held here on Wednesday.
The programme was inaugurated by Collector K. Maharabushanam.

Speakers said that understanding the nature of disaster like heavy rain and drought should be known well, so that the affected people are reached on time and service provided.
The vulnerability of the coastal areas that is evident when the tsunami struck the southern coast was also deliberated upon during the workshop.
Major cyclones that the State faced recently were discussed, apart from the extent of damage to both humans and property.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the District Disaster Management Authority and responsibilities of officials were explained.
Responsibility
T.S. Sridhar, Commissioner of Revenue Administration and the State Relief Commissioner, through video conference, spoke on the rescue and relief operations and the responsibility of officials during such natural disasters.
He also gave guidelines on factors to be kept in mind while preparing the taluk-level disaster management plan.
Revenue officials from Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts participated in the workshop.
