Residents, students seek bus service

Residents, including school children of Ayyapalli and Kongampalayam, approached the district administration on Monday seeking

bus services to their locality. In their petition, they pointed out that they had to walk for two km up to Sathy Road

to avail themselves of the bus services after three mini-buses that used to ply through their locality until four months ago discontinued the services.

According to the petition, the two localities in the 16th ward of the city limits account for 2,500 residents, and nearly 20 industrial units. Due to the absence of the bus services, students faced difficulty in reaching the school in time and workers were also late to the industries. Also, residents returning to the localities from elsewhere during night hours were exposed to the danger of walking in darkness for two km from Sathy Road.

The district administration must either arrange for new city bus services or resumption of the mini bus services, the representatives said.

They also wanted the district administration to monitor the fares charged by mini bus operators. The fare of Rs. 8 for seven-km distance from the locality to the Erode Bus Stand was exorbitant, they said.
