Residents of Poonamallee arrested for pouring sewage water in municipality office

The Poonamallee Police have arrested five persons for causing nuisance, abusing and preventing government officials from doing their work when more than 100 persons came to present a complaint letter regarding the stagnation of drainage water in Ward 14 of Poonamallee Municipality.

A police official of Poonamallee Police station said on Monday morning more than 100 persons from Ward 14 visited the Poonamallee Municipality office to give a representation seeking to take action against stagnation of sewage water. Infuriated by the inaction of the municipality officials the residents went on a sit-in protest at the municipality office. During the protest, a section of the residents poured the sewage water inside the municipality office and also abused the government officials.

Based on a complaint from the officials of the Poonamallee Municipality, the police officials filed a case and detained five persons for causing nuisance by pouring sewage water, abusing and preventing government officials from doing their work. The five persons arrested included P. Kandan (45), M. Gnanam (65), K. Sadiq (52), K. Khadar (49) and J. Thamizhmaran (37). All the accused persons belong to Poonamallee area.
