The Railway Safety Commission is expected to table its report on the Anekal train accident that claimed nine lives, by the end of June, said Sunandha Arul, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway, here on Friday. Four bogies of the intercity derailed at Anekal in February.
Addressing reporters at the Sub-Collector’s office on the sidelines of an inspection at Hosur railway station, the ADRM said in the wake of the accident, trains were operated at a speed of 15km per hour along the Anekal stretch. However, today, the trains were operated at 65km per hour. Similarly, there were complaints about stones being pelted on engines. The Railway Protection Police had been deployed to check such activities, she added
According to the ADRM, the financial allocation for Bengaluru division has been raised to Rs. 35 crore this fiscal compared to the Rs. 20 crore last fiscal.

The allocation will be used to upgrade basic amenities at Hosur railway station, ensure drinking water, sanitation and platform facilities.
Currently, there is no coach intimation boards on Platforms 2 and 3. The boards will be put in place on these platforms, Ms. Arul said.
Responding to queries on safety along the elephant corridor at Periyanaandhathonai in Hosur, she said the trains were operated at a downgraded speed of 30km to 40km, along the 8-km elephant corridor, with the sounding of horn.

Boarding rooms
Ms. Sunandha Arul said that 16 boarding rooms for women were inaugurated in Bengaluru city railway station. The rooms could be booked at Rs. 120 for 12 hours and Rs. 200 for 24 hours.
CCTV cameras were installed in the rooms for the safety of women.
Under the South Western Railway, 9,000 bio-toilets were installed in 2014-15. For the current fiscal, a targeted 17,000 bio-toilets were proposed, the ADRM said.
Later, the Hosur consumers groups and associations called for laying of double-tracks between Hosur and Bengaluru, and also called for linking the Hosur-Jolarpet line for easy connectivity to Chennai.
