Remand prisoners set to get Aadhaar cards

Ramnad DLSA took first-of-its-kind initiative in the State

In a first of its kind in the State, the District Court organised a special camp at the District Jail here on Thursday to help remand prisoners register themselves for getting Aadhaar cards, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), District Jail and Tamil Nadu Cable TV Corporation jointly organised the special camp, in which 20 prisoners registered themselves for getting Aadhaar cards. Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, Chairman of the DLSA, took the initiative after some prisoners, during one of her routing prison inspections, said they were in the jail for long and could not register for Aadhaar cards.

Sub-Judge V. Ramalingam, secretary of the DLSA, made the arrangements for the camp. M. Syed Mohammed, Deputy Manager, Tamil Nadu Cable TV Corporation, who is the Special Tahsildar for Aadhaar registration,said they would be issued Aadhaar cards within a fortnight.
