R-Day honours: Medals presented to policemen

The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with fervour in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts on Saturday.

In Vellore, Collector S.A. Raman hoisted the tricolour and reviewed the guard of honour at Netaji Stadium. He presented the Chief Minister’s police medals to 81 policemen in recognition of their good work.

He also handed over certificates to government officers in appreciation of their work.

Mr. Raman handed over welfare assistance worth ₹4.24 crore to 75 beneficiaries on the occasion. This included houses to 20 beneficiaries and equipment worth ₹9.92 lakh to ten farmers through the agriculture department, and loans with subsidy to the tune of ₹3.37 crore to first-generation entrepreneurs under the Unemployed Youth Employment Generation Programme. District Revenue Officer, J. Partheeban, Superintendent of Police, Pravesh Kumar and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Vellore), V. Vanitha were among the officials who participated.

In Tiruvannamalai district, Collector K.S. Kandasamy hoisted the tricolour. He handed over the CM’s police medals to 46 persons and certificates to 187 government officers and employees.

He presented welfare assistance to the tune of ₹1.43 crore to 259 beneficiaries. This included farm equipment worth ₹3.09 lakh to nine farmers through the agriculture department, loans with subsidy to the tune of ₹18.32 lakh to entrepreneurs and financial assistance to the tune of ₹68.28 lakh to 17 self-help groups.

District Revenue Officer, P. Rathinasamy, Assistant Collector (Training) M. Pratap, DRDA director B. Jayasudha, Additional Superintendent of Police G. Vanitha were among the officials who participated.
