Expressing concern over people identifying themselves on caste and communal lines, Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Sarvesh Raj has exhorted students and younger generation to work towards creating casteless society and promote communal harmony.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of free summer coaching camp, organised by the ‘Ramnad Hawks Athletic Club’ here on Sunday, he said the district was widely known as a communally sensitive to outsiders and it was the responsibility of the younger generation to remove the ‘dubious distinction’ and make the district progressive and developing.
There was a unique practice of people identifying themselves with their communities in the district and the youngsters should change the trend.

“My identity is a police officer and your identity should be as what you become,” he said adding the students should excel in sports or any other chosen field and identify themselves as sportsmen and after their achievements.
When he was posted in the district as ASP one year ago, he came with an impression that people were violent, but found them emotional and loveable.
The district could be freed from communal tensions if they were guided properly, the IPS officer said.

C. Thirugnana Durai, who had participated (4x100 relay) in the Olympic games held in Sydney in 2000, attended the special camp on Saturday and Sunday and provided useful technical tips to the students.
He said the youth of the district had generic talents and they could scale greater heights in sports if they were properly trained.
Promoted by sports lovers and sponsors two years ago, the club had been providing free coaching to students after identifying talents in government schools by organising summer camps, S.S. Sheik Abdullah, patron of the club, said. Hanifa, a product of National Institute of Sports, Bengaluru, offered coaching to 25 boys and five girls in this year’s 22-day summer camp held at Nabeesa Ammal Matriculation School campus here, he said.
Four students, including a girl, participated in the Junior National Athletics Championship held in Vijayawada last year, Mr Hanifa, who completed M. Phil in Physical Education, said.
M. Sathik, President, District athletic association, Gupta R Govindarajan, Baranikumar, Aru Subramanian, Rakland Maduram, Blaludhin and Udayachandran were among others participated.
