Project being hastily commissioned: DMK

May 29, 2013 09:31 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:21 pm IST - DHARMAPURI:

Charges that work on the Hogenakkal project is still incomplete marked the countdown to Wednesday’s commissioning of the drinking water and fluorosis mitigation project by Chief Minister through video-conferencing.

Officials claimed that only three per cent of the work was yet to be completed and that too because of problems in getting permission from the National Highways Authority of India for laying pipelines. But, Opposition parties alleged that over 15 per cent of the work was yet to be completed.

CPI (M) MLA from Harur P. Dillibabu was happy over the project becoming a reality. However, he questioned the logic behind the distribution of water under this scheme through the existing lines. While Hogennakal scheme water would be supplied twice a week, the groundwater with fluoride would be provided for the remaining five days.

T. Senguttuvan, Veppanahalli MLA and DMK Krishnagiri district secretary, said despite the pending work, the government was hastily commissioning the project with an eye on the Parliament elections.

Former Minister and AIADMK MLA from Palacode K.P. Anbazhagan argued that the Chief Minister’s perseverance helped complete the project. However, the DMK put up posters in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, thanking party president M. Karunanidhi and M.K. Stalin for implementing the project.
