The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed for three weeks proceedings in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and others following a petition filed by V.K. Sasikala, one of the accused.
Vacation judge Justice B.V. Pinto passed the interim order on the petition challenging the April 21 order of the Special Court rejecting applications filed by Ms. Jayalalithaa and Ms. Sasikala for inspection of unmarked documents. Ms. Sasikala had sought a list of unmarked documents from the Special Court stating that it would help her answer the questions put to her by the Special Court under Section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
While rejecting the application, the Special Court had observed that the application filed on behalf of her “can be inferred as she is using it [application] as delaying tactic.”

The Special Court had also pointed out that the applications had neither their affidavits nor their signatures on the applications.
With this order of the High Court, the Special Court cannot proceed to continue to record Ms. Sasikala's answers on May 17.
