Problem at post office

May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST

On April 18, I went to the Erode Collectorate post office. But due to complete power cut the whole day from 8 am to 5 pm postal clerks were unable to operate the computers due to poor battery conditions. This problem persists for a long time in the post office.

I request the senior postal authorities of this region to look into matter and do the needful?

Tips on Shatabdi Express

Recently, I travelled from Erode to Chennai by Shatabdi Express. I was shocked to see the staff collecting tips from the passengers. Are they allowed to do so? If not, are the authorities aware of this and what steps are they going to take to prevent such practices in future?

Corruption takes

another form

A lot of people take active interest in preventing corruption. Many go on fast until death and others block the roads. In my view, the worst form of corruption takes place on the roads. Over one lakh people die in traffic accidents every year in India and many more are seriously injured. Road accidents take place because of corruption; and after the accidents corruption rears it ugly head again. A judge recently proclaimed ‘Right to life is second to none’. Yet another judge has lamented that drunken drivers are suicide bombers.

Human rights are violated everyday, every hour, every minute on the roads. Will someone go on a fast to prevent ‘the corruption’ of road accidents?

Speed breakers,

a problem

On the Dharmapuri - Hogenakkal highway, starting from the railway level crossing, there are no less than six speed breakers at a distance of less than half a kilometre. Of, these two are the conventional single row speed breakers near the level crossing. The other four near the Vijay Vidyalaya School and the Family Court are the multiple row speed breakers, two of which were recently added. They are an affliction on the travelling public by the highways department. Compared to the single row speed breakers these multiple speed breakers are a menace to all motorists as they really rattle and shake up any vehicle passing over them. They rattle bones and bodies and cause severe jolts to vehicles and passengers alike.

In the process of controlling speed they cause severe shock and discomfort to commuters. They should be removed and replaced with sensible single row speed breakers in the interests of safeguarding the health of both the travelling public and vehicles. They should be totally banned.

Crowded bus stand

The Municipal bus stand in Dharmapuri town always poses a crowded look. Moreover, there is no restriction on the entry of two-wheelers and autorickshaws inside the bus stand. This further leads to chaotic conditions. The Dharmapuri Municipality should come forward to construct a spacious bus stand on the outskirts of the town. The present bus stand could be used as a town bus stand. It should also seek financial assistance from the Government for this project.

Water stagnation

Whenever it rains, water stagnation is a common sight on the main thoroughfares and service roads in Salem city. This caused much hardship to the two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. I request the Salem Corporation to take steps for draining the water from the roads immediately.

Encroachments

removed

The police have removed the encroachments near the main entrance of the Uzhavar Sandhai at Suramangalam in Salem city. The police party also regulated the parking of two-wheelers. This initiative should be continued.

Unjustified

The Salem district administration has stopped considering the fresh applications for obtaining old age pension, widow pension and monthly financial assistance for differently abled persons. This is totally unjustified and has caused much hardship to the deserving people. The authorities should conduct proper scrutiny of the applications and sanction the welfare assistance to all deserving people.

People unaware

I travelled from Namakkal to Tiruchi in the recently introduced Yeswantpur - Rameswaram summer special via Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchi in the unreserved compartment on April 19.

The train arrived at Namakkal Railway Station at the right time. The train timings are very comfortable. However, there were not many people in the unreserved coaches. I request the Railways to give more publicity to this train.
