The President’s Colours have been conferred on the Tamil Nadu police as the force celebrates the 150th year of its existence this year. At a function to be held next month, President Pratibha Patil is expected to confer the honour after which every member of the police department will be given a badge containing the special colours, police sources said.

“It is the highest recognition for good work…Tamil Nadu police is third in the country after Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to get the President’s Colours. We have also sent a proposal to the Government for the award of a medal to all police personnel who are in service during the 150th year,” Director General of Police K.P. Jain told The Hindu on Wednesday.

A proposal for the award of President’s Colours was sent a few months ago with a compilation of the achievements made by the State police. “We are also trying to get a commemorative stamp released to mark the 150th year. A flag will be presented to the DGP to mark the award of President’s Colours,” he said.
