President Ram Nath Kovind visits Karunanidhi in hospital

President Ram Nath Kovind made a visit to Chennai on Sunday afternoon to enquire about the health of ailing DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.. Karunanidhi at the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet here.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit accompanied the President to the hospital, where they were received by Mr. Karunanidhi’s son and DMK working president M.K. Stalin and daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.

The visit lasted for about 15 minutes. After coming out of the hospital, the President, in a rare gesture, got down from his vehicle to wave at the crowd that had gathered in front of the hospital. Governor Purohit and Minister D. Jayakumar were also present.

Soon after the visit, the President’s official twitter handle tweeted, “Visited Thiru M. Karunanidhi in Chennai, met Kalaignar‘s family members and doctors, and inquired about his health. Wishing the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a veteran of our public life, a quick recovery #PresidentKovind”

Earlier in the day, when the President landed in Chennai, Governor Purohit and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami received him at the domestic air terminus.
