Poolampadi to get more water supply by March

Several works under way at a cost of Rs.2.10 crore

The Poolampadi Town Panchayat will get additional water when a scheme, implemented under Integrated Urban Development Mission at a cost of Rs.2.10 crore, becomes operational by March.

Now, it is getting drinking water from five open wells with a supply of 67 litres per capita. When the scheme is completed, the per capita supply will increase to 87 litres a day, said N. Kumaran, Executive Officer of the town panchayat.

The scheme envisages construction of four open wells, four motor rooms, two overhead tanks (OHTs) with a capacity of one lakh litres and 60,000 litres, construction of a sump with a capacity of two lakh litres and laying of pipelines.

Three open wells at Nallathanneerkulam, Rasipurathan Kuttai and Arasaladikadu have been dug; each well is 22 metres deep and 12 metres in diameter. The fourth open well at Karaikulam is yet to be completed. Overhead tanks with a capacity of one lakh litres and 60,000 litres have been constructed.
