The Crime Branch-CID of the State police is looking for eight more suspects involved in betting on the Indian Premier League matches.
The agency, which busted a cricket betting syndicate involving an organised group of bookies operating in Chennai, has formed six special teams.
The police are likely to contact their Delhi counterparts to apprehend the gang’s kingpin, who is suspected to be running betting operations in different parts of the country, police said.

The State police team arrested six persons who were running betting operations in the city during the ongoing IPL tournament. Communication equipment, cash and other documents were seized from them.

The Coimbatore city police on Saturday picked up four persons suspected to be part of a betting syndicate.

Police seized Rs. 5.05 lakh in cash, a laptop and half-a-dozen mobile phones.
Police sources said they picked up Lakshman (36) from his house-cum-office in Ponnaiahrajapuram on Saturday evening. Based on his information, they picked up Anwar Bai, Sampath and Raju. Police were on their way to Karamadai, about 20 km from here, and Tirupur to nab a couple of more persons.
Sources said the police received a tip-off from a person who had lost money in betting. Preliminary investigation showed that that the betting had nothing to do with investigations in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
They added that Lakshman had acted as the Coimbatore agent for a Mumbai-based bookie, Mangal Singh.
Only after all those involved were arrested would the police be able to put the pieces together, the department said. Police added that their initial suspicion was that the betting racket was going in Coimbatore since the first edition of the Indian Premier League.
