The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed a public interest litigation petition filed by an advocate for a court monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Madurai Kamaraj University audiotape scandal.

The case is that Nirmala Devi, an assistant professor (since suspended) in mathematics at the Devanga Arts College in Aruppukottai of Virudhunagar district, had allegedly attempted to lure students over phone in exchange for sexual favours to some influential persons.

Justices R. Subramanian and M. Dhandapani rejected the plea made by G.S. Mani who had claimed that though the offence was grave, the police booked a simple case. The judges said they did not find any merit in the petition as another plea was pending.
