Pipe bomb accused file bail applications

Syed Sahabbudhin and Darvish Moideen, two accused in the case relating to planting of a pipe bomb, allegedly aimed at assassinating former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani during his visit to Madurai in October 2011, have filed bail applications before the Madras High Court Bench here.

The petitioners were remanded to judicial custody on March 25, 2013 by the Tirumangalam judicial magistrate. They were booked under Sections 307 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4(i) and 6(i) of the Explosive Substances Act.

Syed Sahabbudhin said Ishmath, one of the accused in the case, frequented his bag shop as a customer. He claimed he cooperated with the police during the investigation but was falsely implicated. Darvish Mohideen, who had served seven years in prison in a bomb planting case till 2007, alleged that the police previously subjected him to illegal custody.
