Petrol bomb hurled at BJP leader's house in Coimbatore

According to police, miscreants initially poured fuel on the car and later threw a projectile.

Petrol bomb was hurled at the house of BJP District president C.R. Nandhakumar (right) at Peelamedu in Coimbatore on Wednesday. However, the front side of his car was damaged.

Precisely two weeks after the petrol bomb attack on BJP office in Coimbatore, miscreants targeted the house of party's district president C.R. Nandakumar in the early hours of Wednesday. Mr. Nandakumar's car parked in the porch of his house at Ramalakshmi Nagar on Masakalipalayam Road was partially damaged in the attack.

According to police, miscreants initially poured fuel on the car and later threw a projectile.

After being alerted by Mr. Nandakumar, the Singanallur police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The city police examined the place and collected evidence. City police commissioner K. Periaiah who visited the place said that five special teams have been formed to investigate the attack.

"We have got CCTV visuals of the persons involved in the attack. The specials teams have been instructed to act quickly and trace the assailants," said Mr. Periaiah.

The Hindu , BJP Mr. Nandhakumar said in the incident that happened around 3 a.m., two men, as captured by CCTV camera, could be seen moving around the area before hurling two projectiles filled with fuel. They damaged the front portion of the car parked in front of his house. His mother who woke up first, and alerted him. On coming out of the room, he saw the fire.

Immediately with the help of neighbours,  he put out the fire, and called Singanallur police.

Mr. Nandakumar said that the attack on his house was an extension of the March 7 attack at the district party office on VKK Menon Road, Siddhapudur.

He said that a petrol bomb was hurled at another house at Selvapuram in Coimbatore in the early hours of Wednesday. A car and a two-wheeler belonging to Selvapuram native Umapathi was damaged in the second incident.

"The second incident does not have any connection with that of the attack on BJP leader's house. It seems the result of some personal vendetta. Separate special teams are investigating the incident," he said.
